Mumtaz 98 Denim Shirt
Mumtaz 98 Denim Shirt
THE STORY
From the collection: Blood, Sweat and Oil.
Inspired by Libya’s discovery of oil in 1959, the collection explores the promise of prosperity, the transformation of traditional life, and the contradictions of a nation reshaped by its natural wealth.
The back embroidery references Mumtaz 98, a premium gasoline historically sold in Libya. Mumtaz means “excellent” in Arabic (ممتاز), while 98 refers to its octane rating.
The front emblem references Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), established in 1970 as the country moved towards national control of its petroleum industry.
